“The Lord shall give benignity.” – Psalm 85:12

    The Psalmist says that goodness or the benefits come from our God. Goodness also refers to the prosperity, well-being or bounty. We must sing to the Lord for he has been good to us all through the years. We enjoy the benefits that are provided by our God. Our Creator provides everything richly for our enjoyment. All good things and gifts come from above given to us by our Father. He crowns the year with his bounty.

    In our everyday light we get the abundance, gladness, meadows covered with flocks and valleys mantled with grain. With all the blessings we celebrate the goodness by singing the glory of his name. To receive all goodness from God, we must observe his commands and decrees. The Lord commanded us to obey all the decrees and fear the Lord our God, so that we might always prosper.

   In Exodus 1:15-21, we find the lives of the Hebrew midwives, they feared God and did not do what the King of Egypt had told them to do and they let the boys to live. So God was kind to the midwives and as they feared God, he gave them families of their own and also established their families. They received all good gifts from God.

     Secondly in Genesis 50:19-21 we find the life of Joseph, the son of Jacob. The brothers of Joseph treated Joseph badly and did things in a wrong manner. From pit to the prison and then to the palace his life evolves and everything turned to be good. What all they intended to harm Joseph, God intended it for good to save the life of many people. Even in our lives people may throw us in the dark places and also never recognize the visions God has given us. But when we obey and observe the commands and decrees, what all God promised us will happen. Joseph did not sin against God by doing a wicked thing. Joseph never accepted the words of Pothipar’s wife. So as reward God blessed him with all his goodness and also made him the governor of Egypt.

     Finally we see how God satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry (soul) with good things – Psalm 107:9. In the lives of Elijah and of Elisha, they both had thirst for Godly thing. Specially in II Kings 2:9, Elisha said “Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit”. This shows how he committed himself to receive the spiritual blessings. God saw the hunger and thirst of Elisha and his determination to accompany Elijah until the moment Lord took him. Elisha’s commitment was unfailing. This made the good and perfect gifts to come down from above from the father of the heavenly lights who does not change like shifting shadows.

     Let us turn to the Lord again to obey and follow all of his commands. Then he will make us most prosperous in all the work of our hands. He will again delight in us and make us prosperous.  God’s word is very near us and with the help of the Holy Spirit we shall obey and receive his bounty, kindness, mercy, happiness, benefits and more.
