They were all filled with the Holy Spirit. (Acts2:4)
Pentecost was the second great festival of the Jewish year. It was a
harvest festival when the first fruits of the grain harvest were presented to
God (Leviticus 23:17) in like manner Pentecost symbolizes, for the church, the
beginning of God`s harvest for souls in the world.
In Acts 2, we find external manifestations of a sound like a powerful
wind and of tongues of fire demonstrated that God was present and active in a
powerful way. The fire may symbolize consecrating and separating believers unto
God for the work of glorifying Christ.
The beginning of the fulfillment of God`s Promise in Joel 2:28 to pour
out His spirit upon all His people in the end times can be known here. All who
were filled with the Holy Spirit preached Jesus and also influenced the
converts to receive the same Holy Spirit. This leading others into the baptism
in the Holy Spirit is the key to the apostolic work.
Through this baptism in the spirit the followers of Christ became
successors to his earthly ministry. Let us also be filled with the Holy Spirit
and magnify and glorify Jesus Christ.
